I wanted to make some accent pillows for Miss D's Teen Bedroom. Her reveal is soon and I wanted pillows to tie the room together. I had purchased these Ikea covers a while back and thought they would be perfect. I had also bought a few years ago some DecoArt Ink Effects and thought - why not try this! Because the pillows were 100% cotton, I purchased the Basecoat to prep the fabric before following the instructions for the paint.
It was super easy! All I did was print the images/text onto regular copy paper (Make sure to print your image in reverse if you have text like I did), then using a paint brush I painted over the text. Easy Peasy!! Then following the instructions, I placed some copy paper over top of the whole pillow and my design and then ironed on low with no steam.
I also traced the outline with a sharpie as I wanted more of a border on the 'Blaze your own trail' pillow. I also made a simple felt flower for the Drew pillow.
I can't wait for her to see the room! Soon I will post pictures after the reveal!
This was a fun piece to make. I had bought this little wooden guy at my local thrift store for $1.00 and had originally planned to just paint him white, put some mesh on him and call it a day. But I was in the mood to get my fingers covered in some colour so I changed my mind and went a little more mixed media on him. After painting him white and then adding layers, I put some hardware cloth on the back and two hooks (I think they look like feet) for some hanging jewelry. I hope she likes it!
I've been trying to come up with some art to make for the girls gallery walls. Miss D loves Beyonce and I thought a quote from her would be fun to do. I had bought this owl art at my local thrift store a year ago and knew it would be perfect for what I wanted to do. I had some prints that I had made with my DIY gelli plate that had all the colours that are in her room. So I used those to make the little frame on the piece. The hearts were embossed to add some background to it. I used some transfer paper to transfer the image that I made in photoshop. The BEYONCE part was just stamped.
Hope she likes it!
Have a great day! I'm home with a sick little boy today so hoping he feels well soon!
I have fallen in love with this free printable from Design, Dinning and Diapers and knew right away what I was going to do with this old frame I got at the Thrift Store for $2. I first white washed the frame to give it more an aged look by watering down some antique white paint. I then grabbed my gesso to cover up that wolf, and then painted the whole surface with antique white paint.
I printed the free printable and with some graphite paper, transferred the image onto the surface. To get a flat black look, I used black chalkboard paint to fill in the tap and the word WASH.
I love how it turned out!
It's snowing buckets here so I hope you are all having better weather!!
One of the items I needed for Miss A's bedroom was a bed side lamp. I looked high and low for something that would fit her room and couldn't find anything. And BANG! I didn't have to look far as I had this ugly lamp on my own bed side table that I was going to get rid of. I inherited it from a prior tenant and always hated it but it worked. The shade on it was hideous and the 'trophy' like shape of it bugged me.
I love spray paint and use it on everything so I thought - why not? Let's see how this ugly lamp could be transformed to a unique lamp for Miss A's room! I was at Walmart and came across the shade which was $8.00! I already had the primer and purple spray paint for another project so the shade was the only thing needed. I first gave it a good scrub with TSP and then primed and two coats of purple paint. Added the shade and voila! I love how it turned out! Hope she will too!
Like most 8 year old boys my son is OB-SESSED!!! with Minecraft. He had a minecraft birthday party (still need to post pictures) that took me two months to plan and get ready for. Now in his new room what do you think he picked? Yup - Minecraft. So here is the inspiration for his room.
There are a lot of little things that I need to get for his room, they include:
Minecraft poster and poster frame for above bed
Materials to make the torches (project to come soon)
Wood for his feature wall and the valences - I will get that at my local lumber retail store
Felt for pillows (I already have the pillow cases from Ikea project to come soon)
