Pillows made using DecoArt's Ink Effects for Miss D's Bedroom

I wanted to make some accent pillows for Miss D's Teen Bedroom. Her reveal is soon and I wanted pillows to tie the room together. I had purchased these Ikea covers a while back and thought they would be perfect. I had also bought a few years ago some DecoArt Ink Effects and thought - why not try this! Because the pillows were 100% cotton, I purchased the Basecoat to prep the fabric before following the instructions for the paint.

It was super easy!  All I did was print the images/text onto regular copy paper (Make sure to print your image in reverse if you have text like I did), then using a paint brush I painted over the text. Easy Peasy!! Then following the instructions, I placed some copy paper over top of the whole pillow and my design and then ironed on low with no steam.

I also traced the outline with a sharpie as I wanted more of a border on the 'Blaze your own trail' pillow. I also made a simple felt flower for the Drew pillow.

I can't wait for her to see the room! Soon I will post pictures after the reveal!

Have a great day!!

Thrift Store Owl Jewelry Holder

This was a fun piece to make. I had bought this little wooden guy at my local thrift store for $1.00 and had originally planned to just paint him white, put some mesh on him and call it a day. But I was in the mood to get my fingers covered in some colour so I changed my mind and went a little more mixed media on him. After painting him white and then adding layers, I put some hardware cloth on the back and two hooks (I think they look like feet) for some hanging jewelry. I hope she likes it!

Have a great day!!

Thrift Store Makeover for Gallery Wall Art for Miss D's Room

I've been trying to come up with some art to make for the girls gallery walls. Miss D loves Beyonce and I thought a quote from her would be fun to do. I had bought this owl art at my local thrift store a year ago and knew it would be perfect for what I wanted to do. I had some prints that I had made with my DIY gelli plate that had all the colours that are in her room. So I used those to make the little frame on the piece. The hearts were embossed to add some background to it. I used some transfer paper to transfer the image that I made in photoshop. The BEYONCE part was just stamped. Hope she likes it!

Have a great day! I'm home with a sick little boy today so hoping he feels well soon!

DIY Thrift Store Makeover for Downstairs Bathroom

I have fallen in love with this free printable from Design, Dinning and Diapers and knew right away what I was going to do with this old frame I got at the Thrift Store for $2. I first white washed the frame to give it more an aged look by watering down some antique white paint. I then grabbed my gesso to cover up that wolf, and then painted the whole surface with antique white paint.

I printed the free printable and with some graphite paper, transferred the image onto the surface. To get a flat black look, I used black chalkboard paint to fill in the tap and the word WASH.

I love how it turned out!

It's snowing buckets here so I hope you are all having better weather!!

$8 Thrifted Lamp Makeover

One of the items I needed for Miss A's bedroom was a bed side lamp. I looked high and low for something that would fit her room and couldn't find anything. And BANG! I didn't have to look far as I had this ugly lamp on my own bed side table that I was going to get rid of. I inherited it from a prior tenant and always hated it but it worked. The shade on it was hideous and the 'trophy' like shape of it bugged me.

I love spray paint and use it on everything so I thought - why not? Let's see how this ugly lamp could be transformed to a unique lamp for Miss A's room! I was at Walmart and came across the shade which was $8.00! I already had the primer and purple spray paint for another project so the shade was the only thing needed. I first gave it a good scrub with TSP and then primed and two coats of purple paint. Added the shade and voila! I love how it turned out! Hope she will too!

Have a great day!

Miss A's Bedroom Inspiration

As mentioned in my prior post, I can't really finish Miss A's bedroom until I'm done Miss D's bedroom. I want to do a complete reveal to her and can't as a big piece of furniture is coming from her big sister's bedroom Miss A decided to stay put in her room as she loves it. Which is great for me. But to make it special for her I wanted to give her room a refresh. She will be 10 in March and is in that in between age of little girl and pre-teen. She loves purple and really wanted some owls in her room. The only thing she asked for was a chandelier.

My shopping list isn't too bad for her room:
TEJN Faux sheepskin IKEA The faux sheepskin is super soft, warm and cozy. Ideal as a rug or draped across your favorite armchair.
FLÖNG Curtains, 1 pair IKEA The curtains let the light through but provide privacy so they are perfect to use in a layered window solution.
Mongolian Fur Butterfly Chair in White
KRISTALLER Chandelier, 3-armed IKEA The height is easy to adjust by using the S-hook or cutting the chain.
  • Dresser
  • Cardstock for flowers
  • Poms
  • Filigree and letter A for her door
  • Purple spray paint
  • new shade for her revamped lamp

My To - Do list for her room:
  • Gallery wall
  • Paint my half table as her side table
  • Repaint my ugly lamp purple
  • Poms
  • Paper flowers
Paper Leaf Tutorial | ashandcrafts.com
  • Owl hook
  • Owl jewelry hanger
  • Paint chandelier and put up
  • Quote frame
  • Her initial for her door
  • Hang curtains

Excited to see how this room will turn out! I will post some before pictures soon!

Miss D's Teen Room

It's funny how construction sometimes hinges on one thing. It causes a snowball effect. To get all the rooms done Miss D's room MUST be done first. She has to be out of her room before I can grab her old armoire that is going to go into Miss A's room. Plus Miss D must be out of her room so I can paint it and get it ready for Mr. P's room. My to do list and shopping list for her room is not too bad but I can't do anything until our contractor makes the niche to make her room feel bigger.

My Shopping List for her room is as follows:
  • Barn Door track from my work Haliburton Timber Mart
  • Closet organizer
  • Mirror Closet door from my work
  • Wood for the barn door from my work again
  • Chair/stool so she can play her guitar

RÅSKOG Bar stool IKEA Easy to move thanks to the hole in the seat. Plastic feet protect the furniture when in contact with a damp surface.
SOLLEFTEÅ Table lamp IKEA You can create a soft, cozy atmosphere in your home with a paper lamp that spreads diffused and decorative light.SOLLEFTEÅ Ceiling lamp IKEA The lamp gives a pleasant, evenly distributed general light, as it uses a GX53 light source.

  • Poms
  • Guitar case and fabric
  • Frame for cork board
  • Marquee letter
My To - Do List is just as long:
  • Make barn door
  • Create the paper horse head that I bought from Etsy
Papercraft horse head - printable DIY template (8 pages)

  • Create a cork board
  • Make the poms
  • Paint the electric fireplace green
  • Make her Marquee letter
  • Make the jewelry box inspired by PB Teen

  • Create her gallery wall
  • Hang curtains that I got at Bed, Bath & Beyond a while ago.
  • Paint
One wall will be: CIL Moroccan Sands (she really wanted orange)
The cubby will be: CIL Rich Navy

The fireplace will be: PPG Laurel Wreath

Other Walls will be: Behr Bit of Sugar

I will keep you posted to my progress! At least the contractor is there as we speak - finally!

    Have a great day!

New Chapter in my life 2 + 3 = Happy Heart

I have been truly blessed. I have found the one whom my heart calls home. I am truly happy to say that it took a long time to find him but there he was - one day on the golf course :) . Fast forward a year and a half and we are making the move. Because we each have children we decided to take it very slow. So some time in April, my son and I are moving in with my love and his two daughters. I can't wait. To make it special for the kids we decided to put all of our focus on making their spaces amazing! To make the house work for us we have to shuffle rooms around. Miss D (his 15 year old, horse/music lover) will be moving to the spare room downstairs, Miss A (his spunky almost 10 year old) will stay in her room but will get a refresh, and my Minecraft fanatic 8 year old will be moving into Miss D's room. Amongst making three kids rooms ah-maz-ing, we are also renovating the downstairs bathroom, recroom, making me a craft space (YIPPEEE!!) and putting in a fireplace upstairs in the living room. PHEW! So my to do list is pretty big!

Here are some inspiration photos for each of these rooms! Stay tuned for many projects to come!

Each room has a to-do list longer than my arm but I've managed to scratch some off this week! Stay tuned for more posts soon!
